New To Yoga

Your First Visit

On your first visit, plan to arrive 15 minutes before class to allow time for filling out a waiver form, paying, and getting oriented. The studio opens 15 minutes before class begins. You are also welcome to sign up online and pay in advance through our schedule page.

When you enter the studio, please remove your shoes and leave them on the racks near the door. Introduce yourself to the instructor at the desk, who will help sign you in and will show you where you can change and where to store your personal belongings.

We provide all props, including yoga mats for public use. For health reasons, many students choose to bring their own yoga mat.

Please note: If you have serious medical conditions or injuries, or you have chronic pain, or you are unsteady on your feet, please call or e-mail us before coming to class to discuss the best way for you to begin yoga. In these situations please do not just show up at the studio for a class.

Classes For Beginners

Free Classes:
We periodically offer free classes. The classes are appropriate for beginners or anyone who wants to try out Yoga Shala. We provide everything you need – just wear comfortable clothing. Our home page will list any free classes that are coming up. Pre-registration is strongly recommended for free classes.

Yoga 101 Series:
We offer a four-week progressive series to teach students the fundamentals of Iyengar Yoga. This series is for beginners or for current students who want to review the basics. See our workshops schedule for the next Yoga 101 Series. Pre-registration is recommended for the Yoga 101 series.

Ongoing Classes:
New students are also welcome to join our ongoing Beginner and Gentle classes.

Please see Things You Should Know for more information about classes and the studio.
